Donald Sutherland's ex Jane Fonda, son Kiefer react to his death at age 88: 'Heartbroken'

Donald Sutherland is being remembered by fellow stars after his death at age 88.
Sutherland's ex and former co-star Jane Fonda paid tribute to the legendary actor, who starred in over 200 movies and TV shows. Fonda took to Instagram, saying she was "stunned to hear that Donald Sutherland has died."
"Donald was a brilliant actor and a complex man who shared quite a few adventures with me, such as the FTA Show, an anti-Vietnam war tour that performed for 60,000 active duty soldiers, sailors, and marines in Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines, and Japan in 1971. I am heartbroken," Fonda wrote in the heartfelt Instagram post.

The pair's on-screen relationship turned romantic for a time in the 1970s after Fonda and Sutherland starred in the 1971 film "Klute." She called the actor a "fascinating co-star" and said they "loved working together."

The versatile Canadian actor's prolific career showed a diverse range, from his role as the authority-loathing surgeon Hawkeye Pierce in the "M*A*S*H" movie to authoritarian villain President Snow in "The Hunger Games" franchise.
On Instagram, Sutherland’s "M*A*S*H" co-star Elliot Gould paid homage to his "dear, dear kind friend," writing that the "Hunger Games" star "was a giant, not only physically but as a talent. He was also enormously kind and generous."
"Donald and I both had sons that were born just a week apart. We were young fathers at the same time," Gould continued, adding that "it’s never easy, losing the caliber of a human being and actor like Donald Sutherland, but this one really profoundly hurts because Donald was like my brother, and a big part of my own career."

Sutherland's son "24" and "Designated Survivor" star Kiefer Sutherland paid tribute to his dad in a personal tribute on his social media Thursday.
"With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away," his son posted on social media Thursday alongside a black and white photo of the father-son pair during Kiefer Sutherland's childhood.
He added: "I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."
Billy Baldwin remembers Donald Sutherland as 'complex, complicate and quirky'
Actor William"Billy" Baldwin also paid tribute to his former co-star in a lengthy X post, remembering working with the actor in two films, "Backdraft" and "Virus," as well as the TV series "Dirty, Sexy, Money."
"Donald was a complex, complicated and quirky man in the most delicious way. He had a gentle, childlike boyish streak in him that I absolutely adored," Baldwin wrote. "His persona on screen and his personality in life were as interesting and original as the features on his face... need I say more. He was a true original."
Baldwin called Sutherland "one of a kind" and said he has "never known anyone remotely like him. His many incredible qualities and somehow even his flaws made him more unique, more charming... more lovable."
